Miggy regularly enjoys composing for as many media as possible, and constantly seeks to express himself in new and challenging ways. The result has been a compositional style rooted deeply in experimentation that calls upon a variety of musical genres and uses a smörgåsbord of compositional techniques; he feels equally at home writing for a string quartet or a jazz quartet.
His works have been performed internationally by musicians as diverse as the SOMA String Quartet (Syādvāda) and Bass/Baritrone Fred Diengott (Seven Six-Word Stories). In 2015, Miggy was selected as a composition fellow for the VIPA Composition Festival in Valencia, Spain where Difrasismos received a world premiere by acclaimed chamber group Eastman BroadBand. Miggy’s music has also received various awards and honors such as the Louis Smadbeck Composition Award for his piece Colorwalk.
Current projects include include a new work for string quartet and oboe, a piece closely-amplified voices, and a work for amplified bass flute in collaboration with NYC-based flutist and improviser Justine Stephens.
When not composing, Miggy is also an avid vocalist and has performed in both solo settings and in ensembles such as the Ithaca College Improvisation Ensemble and Ithaca College Choir, with whom he’s performed at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center. He has also performed with the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra under the baton of maestro Lanfranco Marcelletti. During his tenure at the Ithaca College School of Music, he studied voice with celebrated mezzo-soprano Ivy Walz and music theory pedagogy with Dr. Craig Cummings. Moreover, Miggy is a passionate improviser, having studied under such acclaimed artists as Louise Mygatt and Nick Weiser.
As a conductor, Miggy studied choral conducting with Dr. Janet Galván. He has also been very active in the ACDA, being the Vice-President of the Ithaca College Student Chapter for two consecutive years, and being the first Composition Major to hold the post.
Miggy is also a fierce advocate for bringing new music into communities, serving on the Board of Directors and as Media Administrator and Grant Writer at Connecticut Summerfest, a composition festival that takes place annually in the heart of Connecticut.
Miggy’s hobbies include cooking; hiking; and studying wine, Italian, linguistics, or anything else that’s cool.
